Spring Beret Crochet Pattern

One of the first things I’ve wanted to design is a Beret! Some call it a Tam or I’ve even heard it called a Chemo Hat. I’ve always called it a Beret, but maybe because that’s all of my French Canadian education! I wear them all the time. I love the look and the feel (it’s so light-weight I sometimes forget I’m wearing a hat)! One of the biggest issues I had was trying to find a yarn that had the right weight and colors, I wanted something that would match most of my outfits (which consist mainly of blues, pinks and purples!).

Comfy Cozy Knits Hand Dyed Yarn!

I’ve been wanting to try some hand dyed yarn and I especially wanted to support local, so when I heard that Comfy Cozy Knits was going to be at a local yarn store in person I knew it was my chance to go buy (and squish!) some beautiful hand dyed yarn!

Since I’m a stay at home mom and we’re on a pretty tight budget living off of one income, I don’t have a lot of money to buy luxury hand dyed yarns all the time. Thankfully it was Valentine’s Day week, and my husband had me go pick out a skein of yarn, and that was his gift to me! To me, yarn is way better than flowers!!

Construction

This crochet pattern is constructed by making the brim first, crocheting rows of hdc, working in the 3rd loop, for the ribbed look. The brim is then joined together to form a circle and then the body of the hat is worked around the top of the brim (the bottom of the body) up to the top of the beret. The lacy pattern is created by crocheting groups of 3dcs in the ch1 spaces instead of working in actual stitches. If you are just starting off your crochet journey, and you’re like me, you might find it a bit confusing to follow at first, but once you get the hang of it, it’s super simple and I’m confident that you’ll love the end result!

If you’re wanting something a bit warmer, check out my patterns for the Jasmin Messy Bun Beanie or The Karen Headband! But for now lets spring into warmer weather and lighter hats with the Spring Beret Crochet Pattern!
