The Heritage Sweater: A Free Crochet Pattern for Girls

Girl's crochet sweater posed with stuffed rabbit and book.

The Inspiration

I have two sons. My sister has two sons. We live next door to each other. That’s a lot of boys! I normally target my crochet designs for boys, since that is who I have at my disposal for modelling. I love boys, I love playing in the dirt and catching frogs. However, I am also a big fan of pink, lace and all things girly. So when I found out that my sister was expecting a baby girl, I was so exctited to start crocheting for my little niece!

The Yarn

I reached out to Briggs and Little, a Canadian Woolen Mill, to ask if they wanted to collaborate on a project. I have used their Heritage yarn before and I absolutely love it and ALL of the colour options they have! I saw that they had a couple of new colours this year, including Briar Rose and Sage and I knew I wanted to use them! I am not always the most creative when it comes to naming my crochet designs, so I decided to name this sweater the Heritage Sweater, after the beautiful yarn it is made with.

The sweater is currently designed for two sizes; 18 months and 24 months. However I hope to release it in more sizes in the new year, so make sure you subscribe to my email list to be the first to know when the new sizes are released.

I hope you enjoy making this crochet sweater for that little girl in your life, and if you’re like me and you have lots of boys in your life, check out these patterns:
