Diaper Cover Crochet Pattern

The Head Over Heels Diaper Cover is part of a set I created just in time for Valentine’s Day. If you want to make the whole set, make sure to check out the matching Baby Booties and Bonnet! This diaper cover is simple and easy to make. You don’t even have to rummage around trying to find a button last minute, because I’ve designed an adorable little heart button just for this piece!

Materials Required:
  • Size 4.5mm (G) crochet hook (or whatever size needed to meet gauge) I love these hooks!
  • Two colors of worsted weight yarn (4)
    (I used Loops and Threads Impeccable in Aqua and Soft Rose)
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors
List of Abbreviations (US Terms):
  • Ch: Chain
  • St (s): Stitch (es)
  • Sl st: Slip stitch
  • Sc: Single Crochet
  • Hdc: Half Double Crochet
  • Dc: Double Crochet
  • Hdc2tog or Dc2tog: Half double or Double crochet two stitches together (for decreasing)
  • MC: Master Colour (Aqua)
  • CC: Coordinating Colour (Rose)
Gauge:

14 sts by 10 rows alternating hdc/dc is 4” by 4”.
(Row 1: Hdc across, Row 2: Dc across. Repeat rows 1 & 2 four more times).

Notes:
  • Unless otherwise stated, join with a sl st to thefirst st of the round
  • 2dc means to dc twice in one st/space. Dc 2 meansto dc in the next two sts.
  • [] All steps inside square brackets are to bedone in one st.

Row 1) Turn, hdc in second ch from hook, hdc across. (48)

Row 2) Ch 2, turn, dc across. (48)

Row 3) Ch 1, turn, hdc across. (48)

Row 4) Ch 1, turn, sl st in 9, ch 2, dc in next 30.

Row 5) Ch 1, turn, hdc across. (30)

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Heart Button

Magic Loop using CC (rose).

Round 1) Ch 1, sc 7 into loop, join. (7)

Round 2) Ch 1, sc 2, 3dc, sl st, 3 dc, sc, sc and dc, join.

Fasten off and weave in this end but leave the tail from the magic loop.

Back of the Head Over Heels Diaper Cover
Attaching the button to the diaper cover:

Split the tail of the button into two strands. With the back side of the diaper cover facing you, insert a strand into the two spaces beside the middle dc post at the bottom, center of the diaper cover. Tie a bow onto the dc post to secure.

Turn the diaper cover over and fold the bottom up to the top straps. Overlap the straps over the heart and insert the heart in between dc posts (they serve as button holes) on the top. You can make the diaper cover tighter or looser, depending on which holes you use.
