The Inspiration

The Head Over Heels Bonnet was the inspiration and cornerstone of this set. I wanted to make something cute and love themed for Valentine’s Day. I had just finished designing my first granny square (I had never crocheted a granny square before, just the ones I’ve now designed)! And I fell in love. Head over Heels in love with making granny squares. I have lots of plans for them in my future!

I also wanted to design my own newborn set, because I love babies and it seems everyone I know is having one, so why not design the perfect gift for them?!

head over heels bonnet and set

I’ve been seeing all these adorable bonnets on Instagram and some of them look like it’s just two squares attached. Which made me think, why not design a granny square bonnet!? And this pattern was born!

At first I tried it in pink and red, the traditional Valentine colors, but I didn’t like it! I saw the aqua and rose in my stash and couldn’t help myself, I veered away from tradition, but I love the result! It’s so cute and classy!

I could go on and on all day, but you get the idea: Valentine’s day inspired the hearts, my love of babies inspired the set, my new found love of granny squares inspired the construction! Speaking of construction, I’ve tried to add as many helpful photos as possible to make this bonnet a breeze for you!

Now on to the good stuff my lovely, crochet makers! I hope you enjoy it and please tag me on Instagram @shabbysheepapparel or Facebook. I’d love to see your work, especially if the baby in your life is wearing it!!
